1.3 Generations of Computers

The generation of a computer is determined by the hardware technology used in its construction. Each new generation represents a significant improvement in speed, size, storage capacity, reliability, and efficiency. Advancements in operating systems and software utilities have also played a major role in enhancing overall computer performance.

Over time, computers have evolved through five generations, starting from vacuum tube–based machines to modern systems driven by artificial intelligence.
